Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Law people. I am a 13 year old girl looking for a job beacuse my grandmom is badly sick and she has my other 7 brothers and sisters to take care of. My mom is trying to get a place for us to stay because I live in Camden New Jersey and we only have a three bed room and it is 9 people living in here and were trying to save up to get a bigger house. So i wanted to help my family and buy things for them. So please can you make it a state law that the kids that are 13 and older can get a job. Thank you.

i think thirteen year old definately should be able to work especially at summer camps and jobs like that,we need to learn responsibility and we need to learn how to manage on our own

This isn't fair. I mean, I know that other 13 year olds need this more than me,but I would like to have a job now so I can go places without haveing to getmoney from my parents. And when kids turn into teens, it time for a cellular phone and my family just can't afford it! What else should we do? Babysitting is overrated and we are hardly needed in the winter anyway. In the summer we want to do our own thing instead of watching kids. And I am possitive that if teens got a job, they would work harder in school, stop pranks and drug dealing. THIS IS MADNESS!
