Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that 13 year olds should be able to get jobs because there parents sometimes dont have the money to buy them, those high priced shoes or clothes. That way that the parents can focus on their bills or things that they need.

I know, I totally think that 13 year olds whould have jobs too. We can do jobs that don't really require a lot of things to do. We can do cash registers too. And I also want to help my mom with money because she is getting married again and were looking for a new house. I want to be able to pay for my own stuff too you know.
