Question: On job applications, are juveniles required to say to shoplifting if they shoplifted but already paid a fine?

Answer: Generally, there is no criminal law regarding employment applications. However, employers do have a right to ask about criminal convictions. Lying on a job application could be grounds for being fired. In other words, it is not a crime; but like lying, it can catch up with you.

I was about 13 when I was caught shoplifting, I'm 16 now and if I want to get another job they will have to perform a background check and it will report that I commited a crime even if my parents paid the fine, and Inever did anything like that since. Also how long does this kind of thing stay on your record?

Shoplifting is fun. And since parents don't give you enough allowance, you have to do what you have to do.

The law is clear but the answer is not clear. It is understood that the you should not lie on your application. But if you put yes and it has explain how would you explain? For instant I have a cousin that was just in the area while the product was stolen in her sight and used her bookbag but he didn't actually steal the product but he was there. He didn't leave it still was an crime. SO what will he but on the application.
