Question: Is there a specific amount a landlord can raise your rent? When the lease expires? Can they raise it to aas much as they want before you sign a new lease? Are you only protected during your leasing period?

Answer:

While you are protected under the terms of your lease agreement from rent increases (that is assuming that the rent increases are not written into your lease agreement -- they usually aren't) you are not protected against rent increases when your lease expires, unless it is specifically written into your prior lease.
