Answer: A federal law, the Computer Abuse and Fraud Act (47 USC 1030), provides that the maximum penalty for one instance of hacking is five-years and a fine.
For the first time offender, a minimum of six-months in prison; for repeat
offenders it's 10-years and a fine. Fines can range from up to $250,000.
