A police officer asked to search my car after he checked my ID. I was leaving a skate park lot and was approached by him while I was in the vehicle. I gave permission as I had nothing to hide. What are my rights and should a parent be called?

The 4th Amendment to the Constitution guarantees the right of people, including juveniles, to be protected from unreasonable searches, including searches of their property. An individual has the right to refuse a search of your property, in this case a car. However, once you give the officer permission, even if he or she had no reason to ask it, the law considers this a "consent search" and the officer then has the right to search your car.
