What are the laws regarding motorized vehicles in Flagstaff Arizona?

The City of Flagstaff Codes do not address rules relating specifically to mopeds or motorized electric or gas powered bicycles or tricycles. Therefore, you must look to the Arizona Revised Statutes.

According to the Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S. § 28-101) , "Moped" means a bicycle that is equipped with a helper motor if the vehicle has a maximum piston displacement of fifty cubic centimeters or less, a brake horsepower of one and one-half or less and a maximum speed of twenty-five miles per hour or less on a flat surface with less than a one per cent grade.

You do have to register your moped at a local DMV, and have to display your registration number on the frame of the moped.

You do have to have a driver's license to drive a moped, but you do not need a motorcycle license.

You cannot drive a moped along bike paths.

You do not have to have a drivers license to drive a motorized electric or gas powered bicycle or tricycle.

You can drive a motorized electric or gas powered bicycle or tricycle along the bike paths, and follow all bikecyle rules.
