Question: I know that drag racing puts 8 points on my license, but I can't find how long it stays there? How long until my record goes back to having 0 points on it?

Answer: There will always be a record for the conviction in some form or another.  What you are probably asking is how long will this conviction impact your license in the event you get other tickets.  First, for drag racing you are going to be required to attend Traffic Survival School which is an 8 hour long class intended to make you a better driver.  You may only attend Traffic Survival School once every two years as a general rule and avoid having your license suspended.  If, for example, you were to get another ticket for a major traffic violation such as DUI, Reckless Driving or Drag Racing within 2 years of the date you were recently convicted, you would lose your license for a minimum of 3 months because you are no longer eligible for Traffic Survival School.  Note that Traffic Survival School is different than Defensive Driving School, so do not confuse the two.

If you get any additional tickets within twelve months of the date you were stopped for Drag Racing, they will be added to the 8 points.  If you get 13 or more points, your license will be suspended.  If you get additional tickets that do not equal or exceed 13 points, the MVD can still take action which may include suspension.  The 8 points will no longer be added to any other points you get 12 months from the date the ticket was given to you.  Again, even after the 12 months from the date you were given the ticket if you get another citation for a major traffic violation your license will be suspended.  My advice to you is to drive like you are being watched at all times.
