Question:

Can I operate a motorized skateboard at age 14?

Answer:

Motorized skateboard use is covered by city laws. In general, city laws require motorized skateboard riders to be at least 14 years old, follow traffic signs and rules and wear a helmet while riding it. See a sample of motorized skateboard laws in the laws section of this website. To be sure, check with your local police department to find out about laws concerning motorized skateboards in your community.

I live in a city called New Port Richey. I was riding on a sidewalk one day and 2 cops were driving by. They just waved and kept on going. Around a week later another cop pulled me and my friend over while we were riding on a sidewalk. He said it wasn't legal to ride a "motorised vehicle" on a sidewalk and that u had to ride it in the rode. He also said u had to have your'e liscense to drive it. He didnt take my Ped cause i was waring a helmet and he gave us a pamphlet on the laws for riding a ped.I looked at the pamphlet and all the laws wer for California! Does anyone know the law for here?

Don't take your key and run, simply be nice, appologize and tell the officer you'll go straight home. At least then, you won't lose your Goped®!
