Question: Why can you get in trouble from pulling a fire alarm?

Answer: Pulling a false alarm is a crime because it causes disruption of normal activities at the location and can cause people to be in fear of injury from a fire. There is also the possibility of injury during a building's evacuation, as people tend to panic. Additionally, since the fire department must send rescue personnel to the scene to investigate, that fire department's personnel might be unavailable should a real emergency arise elsewhere at the same time.

The offense is defined in Arizona Law (A.R.S. 13-2907) as a class 1 misdemeanor.

I'm a volunteer firefighter here in NJ, and this law is a very good one.. for a few reasons 1. pulling a fire alarm DOES take our fire engines and firefighters away from other things.
