Question: How many points does it take to get your license revoked?

Answer: According to the Arizona Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles, each time you are convicted or forfeit bail for a moving traffic violation, points are assessed against your permanent driving record. If you accumulate 8 or more points within any 12-month period, you may be required to attend Traffic Survival School (TSS), or your driving privilege may be suspended up to 12 months.

Points are assessed as follows:

  • DUI 8
  • Extreme DUI 8
  • Reckless Driving 8
  • Racing on Highways 8
  • Aggressive Driving 8
  • Leaving the scene of an accident 6
  • Failure to stop for a traffic signal, stop sign or to yield the right-of-way, causing death 6
  • Failure to stop for a traffic signal, stop sign or to yield the right-of-way, causing serious injury 4
  • Speeding 3
  • Driving over or parking in a gore area 3
  • All other moving violations 2

Traffic Survival School Program

Traffic Survival Schools, not to be confused with Defensive Driving Schools, are designed to reach individuals who have exhibited a disregard for traffic laws and the safety of others. The TSS Program teaches drivers how to avoid adverse traffic situations by increasing their knowledge of Arizona traffic laws, defining their responsibilities while driving, and most importantly, improving their attitude toward safe driving.

As a result of poor driving behavior, courts frequently order juveniles to attend the course in order to help establish a lifetime of safe driving habits. Additionally, courts may refer traffic violators to a Traffic Survival School as a condition of sentencing.

Ok, I am over the almost in tears bit. However, I have been on the phone with the MVD and the Court House and for some reason they have me believing that my lic. will be suspended, maybe. Although, I just read this article and it says accumulated 8 points with in 12 months I have 5 points from 2006 and just got another ticket for 3 mor points which puts me at 8 points but not accummulated all within a 12 month period. So can I rest easy then????

hey i live in az, i dont quite understand the 12 month period thing. Does this mean that u can have more than 8 points just as long as you did not accumulate them all within 12 months?? I have a speeding ticket from JANUARY 2000, another on MARCH 2001 and I just got another IN SEPTEMBER 2001. This means i only have 6 points in a twelve month period. That means i wont loose my license, correct?????????? PLEAZ answer this question soon, I am worried about loosing my license. Also, is it true that when you turn 18 your driving record gets erased of all the points??????????????
