Question: Is there a fine for a minor to buy alcohol?

Answer: A minor who buys alcohol is guilty of either a class 1 or class 3 misdemeanor, depending on how he/she was able to convince the seller to give him/her the alcohol.

In addition to a fine of up to $500.00 plus surcharges, the court could also suspend or restrict your driving privileges, order you to perform community service, order you to go to counseling, and, probably worst of all, your parents are required to appear at court with you!

I think that it is not much of a good law in the least bit...you have to be 21 years old to buy alcohol yet only 18 to buy cancer causing ciggerettes...besides if a kid wants to get some alcohol he/she would be able to get some any ways from either a parent or friends or someone. Putting such a large fine and restriction the license for that is completely asanine...you are simply trying to ignore that fact that they drink anyways and just instead look for a way to make money...8 out of 10 times the child doesnt even pay the fine anyways..the parents do...

If you are not driving with alcohol then the license should NOT be taken away. You had the good sense not to drive. They are just trying to teach a hard lesson, but they forget it is also hard on the parents!!!!!
