Question: If convicted of a drug related felony, what rights would be lost?
Answer: Felony conviction typically results in the loss of such civil rights as the right to vote, the right to hold a public office and the right to possess a firearm. Additionally, our right to travel, freely associate with others or engage in various types of business may be restricted by conviction for a felony crime. While some of these rights may be restored by the Courts after completion of punishment for the crime, some may become permanently lost.
Also, while not exactly civil rights in the true sense of the word, other effects of a felony conviction often include reduced employment availability and credit and housing restrictions, since many employers, lenders and landlords will not accept applicants who have felony convictions on their record.

I was charged with 4 felonies when I was 16 for driving under the influence of drugs and almost killed 4 people. It is difficult to get your rights back but it s possible. You cant get in any trouble for 5 years after you complete jail time, probation, community service, counceling, correction facility, fines: all that kind of stuff. you will need to fill out 3 record expongement files, have 3 letters of recomendation and appear in front of a judge and maybe speak with your governer. good luck to all.

My son is 18 and just signed off to guilty plea on a drug conviction, he is now a felon. His lawyer said he lost right to vote, firearms and that's it. Can he leave to country to travel and see the world like he wants to?
He was arrested over a year ago for possessing a bag of pills, can't remember what it was.
Can he leave the country?

bein on juvenile felony probation sucks! i just want to kick it and maybe miss a day of school. instead im home every night by 10 o clock. if i miss school my P.O. gets called up. and if im late at all i go to juvy. i just wanna be a normal kid, but all adults look at me as a trouble maker.

I agree that people should be given a chance to rectify mistakes, recover and improve their lives. However, selling drugs is not like making a right on red when that particular intersection does not allow it. It is universally a criminal activity in this country, as any child knows. There are ways to recover some of the rights and it is even possible to have the record expunged in some cases. All of these measures take time and hard work. No one should believe that the time spent incarcerated and on probation are the only debts to be paid.
