Question: Why don't kids have the right to carry guns?

Answer:

Laws are set to protect kids and adults when dangerous instruments are involved. This applies to driving a car as well as to possession of guns. In Arizona, the law states that kids under the age of 18 are not allowed to carry guns.(A.R.S. § 13-3111). This law also provides some exceptions where kids are allowed to have and use a gun under certain restricted conditions.

For example, a kid can carry a gun if he or she is with a parent, grandparent, qualified hunter safety instructor, or qualified firearms safety instructor as long as there is permission from a parent or guardian. When involved in lawful hunting or shooting events or marksmanship practice, kids between the ages of 14 and 18 are allowed to be in possession of a firearm.(A.R.S. § 13-3111). Because there are many exceptions and details in this statute, you may want to read the law or consult a gun expert or lawyer before actually possessing a firearm.

Kids who carry guns to show off are one thing. But, I know lots of kids who shoot competitively. It's a sport, not some macho thing. Also, plenty of kids hunt and fish - does that mean they can't be trusted with their guns? Anybody over 16 drives a car, and that has been proven to be a much deadlier weapon than a gun. If there were any way to magically make all the guns disappear, we would just all be under the power of the bad guy with the biggest stick. Violence in people's hearts is the problem. The kids in Columbine were breaking lots of gun laws, but shooting people is illegal, too.

(in reply to LOZ) ok, let's think about this: all guns destroyed, or let's just way outlawed. WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS! how does that sound? I am 17 and am educated in the handling, use, and cleaning of firearms; is this putting everyone I know in danger? The reason the 2nd amendment was made was for the general public to be able to overthrow the government if circumstances became that bad. I know that concealed carry is not allowed in Il., but I do know that guns are basically the only way to stop someone bad who posesses a gun, otherwise you're up a creek! -Troy
