Question: What are the laws on organized fighting?

Answer: All of the laws regarding organized fighting, which includes boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, hitting, martial arts and 'other combative full contact techniques,' are collected in Arizona Revised Statutes chapter 5. All kinds of organized fighting are regulated by the chapter and a violation any of the chapter's provisions is a class 2 misdemeanor.

Some interesting rules are: every contestant in a boxing contest must wear padded gloves that weigh at least 8 ounces (ARS §5-225(A)), you must be 18 or older to participate in a boxing contest (ARS §5-232), and contestants in 'nontraditional fighting contests' (which includes anything from martial arts to plain old fighting) may not strike each other in the spinal column or the back of the head and may not strike with their knees or elbows (ARS §5-225(D)).
