The best thing to do is call the state poice and ask. I have done this and they are happy to answer your questions. Also, if you buy a new state map, they print the seatbelt laws on there as well.

the michigan seat belt should not apply for adults. The adult should have right rather a seat belt or not.And should not be restrain or penality of pay fines for not wearing them.the children under 17 years should required to be restrain with a car seat or seat belt in back of the car.the auto owner pays enough fees to retain their auto on the road. This law needs to change from the current law and this not about the state caring about your safety and children but ways to make money for their retirement fund for their health insurance while your auto insurance goes up and you have no insurance

Why cant anyone provide a straight forward answer to his question! Anyway, If you are in any of the front seats you must wear a seat belt, If you are in the back seat, and 16 or over, you do not have to wear a seatbelt.
