Question: My dad does not pay his child support. When I turn 18, can I sue him for the support he owes?

    Answer:

Child Support is an award by the court to your mother. Only she can enforce it. If she is not receiving regular child support payments, she should get in touch with the local child support organization of the state in which you live. You can get the information for her, but she must be the party who brings the suit.

In Arizona you should call or write to Department of Economic Security, Division of Child Support Enforcement, in Phoenix at (602) 252-4045. There may be a local number in your local telephone book. This organization will file suit to see that the support and the arrears (overdue amount) are paid, and may tell you how to get in touch with the enforcement organization in another state if the parent who is not paying doesn't live in Arizona. In another state, call your local governmental information phone number, or even your state bar association information number.

this is for adrian.i think you need to stop analizing these people who want the money thats owed to them..you dont know their past you can sit there all day long and tell someone to move on all you want but until you are in their shoes and know the position in life they have been put in you have no room to voice your opinion..everyone has a different outlook on things and it effects everyone differently so dont think you can tell someone to move on just because you think you know what they have been through you have no clue...

Why are you also so bitter. What is up with you kids and all the anger towards money...yah! thats what its really about.. what about having a father figure? Did your mother raise you bashing your father or what...Please try to move on and learn from this. Dont use threats or anger. You will regret it someday. There are many people im sure you can think of that have been a good influence for you. remember them and earn from them all you can and I bet you will be just fine. After all you are wrinting to get someones attention.

This comment is for Jennifer from TX. Why would you want to ask your so called father continue to support you. What did your mother contribute to your support? Did she have stability for you? Why would you want to go after more support from your so called father after he stopped paying. Just because a parent pays support does not call them parents. A parents who cares concentrates on the important things like geting a second job if needed to provide for the kids. Why is it always the fathers fault. Dont be bitter move on and learn from this. You are almost an adult now move on move on move on.

my dad hardly ever pays child support and im in college and could really use that money. because my dad doesn't pay my mom has a hard time paying for things which means we can't get loans for school due to her credit. I don't know what to do and I don't understand why I can't sue my dad since they money he is paying (or not paying) is used on me anyway

My mom pays child support for me and my brother but we never see it at all. My dad and stepmom use it for stupid things like a $600 tread mill(out of my mother's pocket) for my stepmom. He can't say that he uses it for food and a roof over our head because half the time we're not there!!! I just want to know if it's legal for him to do that or not? I mean, you'd think the money was supposed to be used for me and my brother, right?
