Speak Up! - View Question #114

    printer friendly version

Question: I live with my grandmother in Maine but my father has custody of me and he lives in Arizona. He does drugs, how can my grandmother get custody of me?

Answer: In cases of child abuse or neglect, the Arizona Department of Economic Security Child Protective Services division is responsible for protecting the safety of a child.

Arizona law requires certain persons who suspect that a child has received non-accidental injury or has been neglected to report their concerns to CPS or local law enforcement (ARS §13-3620.B). There is a toll free Arizona Child Abuse Hotline at 1-888-SOS-CHILD (1-888-767-2445).

For situations that do not necessairly involve abuse or neglect of a child, you should seek the advice of a certified legal professional. There may be some resources in your community where you can get free or discounted legal advice.

I lived with my grandma my whole life. My Dad's in and out of jail. My mom is inovled with another man and has two children with him. I dislike him very much therefore I do not lived with my mom. My mom wouldn't dare to take me away from my grandma. Because she loves me so much. I would hate her for doing it. Jessia tell your Dad that you love and that you will give it a chance. At least try. I did it and I know you can. That you know if you can handle it or not.

I have been living with my grandmother for 9 yrs. I had to visit my father a few times a yr. My mother lives in the same town as my grandmother, but, she is ill. My father has gotten remarried and now want to take me from my grandmother. No one will listen to me. We have been to court and they are going to send me to my fathers in the spring. I am afraid of my father and want to stay with my granny. Is there a law where you can divorce your Dad?
