Question: How old do I have to be to stop having visitation with my dad?
Answer: Generally, a parent is required to pay child support and entitled to visitation until a child is 18. However, if the court finds, after a hearing, that visitation would seriously endanger the child's physical, mental, or emotional health the court may stop visitation.
The parent who has custody of you could ask the court to appoint a lawyer for you and an Arizona law (ARS 25-321) would permit the court to do so. After doing an investigation, your lawyer could ask for a hearing on your behalf.
The fact that you may not particularly like spending time with your parent won't cut it but if your parent is really harming you in some way you definitely should let someone know.

My parents divorced when I was 7 and I lived with my father for a year before I decided that I wanted to live with my mom. When I was 11, I told the judge that I did not want to see my father anymore and I told the judge the things my father had said and done. In all honesty, there really was no proof that he did anything wrong to me; it was my word against his but the judge believed me and I haven't seen my father since. I think any child should be able to decide if they want to visit a parent or not but they should have a very good reason (eg Physical harm, emotional harm, etc.).

I have a 17 year old daughter who has been through hell with all the mind games he played to keep her away from me for 3 years and now she lives with me and he has visition but she doesnt want to go. Today she saw him with a class mate from her school , Im lost of how to handle this.

When two people get divorced and they agree on vistiation, it should be enforced. Many custodial parents do fill their childs head full of !!!!, and they are the ones who need counseling. These children need both parents in their lives and both parents need to respect the visitation times and honor them.

In some cases children should go back to court with the parents and seek to have visitation changed. In a lot of cases one parent fills the heads of the kids with garbage. And just because you don't like the rules at one parents house doesn't give you the right to act up and be and idiot. Respect has been lost in these days and times and this is the biggest problem. Counseling does help but sometimes you have to realize. It's not easy being a parent especially a divorced one.
