Question: When the law attempts to arrest someone for not paying child support, and this person runs from the law what would the punishment be for this crime?

Answer: Usually for simple non payment of child support, a person will not be arrested. He will have his or her wages garnished if he or she is working. He will have any income tax return intercepted and sent to pay child support. He can have his drivers' license suspended.

For a simple case of owing money, we do not generally put people in jail in this country. If a person is in prison or jail, he cannot earn money to pay the debt.

A parent has a duty to support his or her child. With some exceptions, a parent who knowingly fails to furnish reasonable support for the parent's child is guilty of a class 6 felony. (A.R.S. § 25-511)

i have custody of my two girls 3 & 7 - there mother does not pay her child support - after numerous court orders trying to make her pay they have issued a warrant for her arrest - sometimes the courts do work - i can not get any assistance from any of the state programs because i make too much money - lets be real it takes alot to raise kids especially by yourself - daycare along is over /$800 - mothers like this really do not deserve to see these kids

This comment is to Michel from NY.When I first got with my kids father he was a hard working man and after 4 yrs of being together he became violent.I did what I could and left him.My children are 7 and 10.We have been apart for 5 years.I was not an idiot for being with him because at first he was a good man.But I would have been an idiot if I would have stood after he changed. He has not paid anything in the five years and that doesn't bother me what does bother me is that he lives 1min away and doesn't care about the kids. He doesn't call or came see them.So how do you explain that to them?

I think these laws are all screwed up. There should be permanent arm bands to identify people not supporting their kids. No child/ren should have to do without because an adult is not doing their part. I have twins and their father bailed out "because it was too much for him" leaving me with an $880 daycare bill and all the other expenses of taking care of twins. I know child support isnt everything but at least if I received it, I would be able to pay somone else to keep the kids if they got sick, which is usually one right after the other.

We have not received child support for 4years from our childs mother. And we could careless. As long as our daughter is with us. You hear alot about people complaining that they don't receive child support and they have a scum bag parent, but who was the idiot that made a child with that scum bag. Seems people need to begin taking responsiblity for their mis judgments of people they allowed in there life and move on... no good parent would refuse to pay child support for no good reason. If they do. Then they were probably like that when you met them!

i think its rediculous for someone to say, "we don't usually put people in jail for the "simple" act of owing money" that's posted on the first page. if its so freakin simple, then where is the money..how come my child does without. how come he is paying for his license to drive, and insurance, and i can't, cause i can't afford it. its crap. the father of my child, lives in iowa. we used to live together. during pregnancy found out i have cancer, and we oppted to go thru and deal with that later...so its later..where is he now!!!!???? working in iowa, partying, and refusing to send us money...
