Speak Up! - View Question #146

    printer friendly version

Question: Can my father keep me from getting a job?

Answer: Arizona law makes your parents responsible for your well-being until you turn 18 years old or until you get married or join the military.

SO, your parents may object to you getting a particular job because they do not believe that it will be in the best interests of your well-being. Not only do they have a right to determine this and bar you from getting a particular job, but they have a legal responsibility to provide for your well-being. In other words, they could get in trouble with the law if they DO NOT look out for your well-being.

Right, however there is another side to it. In reality no ones going to press charges and the law is not going to be brought in unless something crazy happens. Get a job, or at least try. Your parents are not going to drag you out from your job by the ear. When you get a job there is responsibility that comes along with it. Why a parent would want to drag there child away from a learning experience such as this is silly and depending on how you look at it ignorant.
