Speak Up! - View Question #156

    printer friendly version

Question: My dad has custody. He wont let me see mom's parents. How can I get to see them?

Answer: In Arizona, grandparents can petition the court for visitation with their grandchildren in certain limited circumstances. In the event a grandparent wishes to seek visitation with the grandchild, he or she must file a petition for visitation in the divorce court. Arizona has not yet recognized a child's right to seek visitation with a grandparent. It would be a good idea to discuss the issue with the custodial parent to see if you can reach an agreement about visits.

It is a heinous oversite to disallow children to see their grandparents due to the inability of the parents to see eye-to-eye. Get together, think of the kids, and work it out!
