Speak Up! - View Question #17998

    printer friendly version

Question: I am 17 years old and my parents let my boyfriend live with us for a year and we have been dating for 2 years. now everything has gone bad my dad has been verbally abusive to me and mom. My boyfriend and I just want to know if it is alright to live together we both have jobs and good transportation. he is older than me and we just want to live together away from my parents.

Answer: How long until you are 18? Once you are 18 you can live with whomever you choose, but until then you will need your parents permission. If your boyfriend is 18 or older, you will want to make sure you are not getting him in trouble by moving in with him when you are under 18. Counseling may be a good option for your family to help with your dad's verbal abuse.
