Question: I'm 13 and i have a 14 year old sister shes almost 15 and already thinking about emancipation but az has no law we both want to be emancitpated my mom has done drugs for longer then i've be alive and she does weed and coke sometimes she also kinda drinks alot i can stand her mentally abuse and threats agaist my life is there anyway me and my sister can get out when we each turn 16 because im also depressed and stressed and i use to cut myself but i dont anymore so my lifes pretty messed up at home i hate it here i need to get out do i have any room to try

    Answer:

Arizona has a new emancipation law that went into effect August 12, 2005. However, it doesn't allow emancipation until you turn 16 and meet the other requirements. See the LawForKids.org Laws Section for a description.

However, if there is abuse in your home, you have other options. Tell a trusted adult or teacher about your situation, to see if they can help. Another option is to call the police or Child Protective Services. If the abuse can be documented, CPS or other child welfare agencies may be able to help you. Sometimes they can get a court to give your custody to a relative other than your mom, or can place you in a safer home.

Sometimes you can get counseling as well, to help with stress and depression. The toll-free number for CPS is 1-888-767-2445.

im also 13,i want to be emancupated soo bad too bc my dad is literally crazy.he breaks my door down, abuses me mentally, and hardly recognizes that i live in the same house. The emancupation laws really need to change.plus my dad tried to commit suicide last year right in front of me bc he was strung out on coke..yea,life does suck at times, but i sure know now that im not gonna let him have a HUGE affect on my life and im not turning out like him..i already hate my mom 4 being on ecstacy, and she only lives an hour away,so im afraid she'll kidnap me if i call her and tell her where i live...

My mother has been doing crack since I was 12 and my father is a severe alcoholic. I had made a decision to not turn out lilke them and give myself everything I can. I spent all my time at school and tutoring which I made into my home. I pushed myself so hard that now I am a junior in college and going into elementary education. I did it all on my own even though my family was all drugged up. I chose to not take that road. You can too. Talk to teachers, counselors, or anyone that will listen. There are people that will. You can do it. Just pray and ask God to hold your hand and follow him.
