Question: My boyfriend stole $7.00 from a boy's locker in his P.E. class. The boy went to the principal and they searched the whole class, and then found out that it was my boyfriend. He has a record and has been arrested for stealing before. Can they arrest him?If so for how long?
Answer:
School administrators, like the principal of a school, have authority to deal with kids while they are on campus. Arizona laws try to make sure that schools have the power to deal with trouble when it comes up, so that parents will rest-assured that their kids are in safe hands during the day. A principal can do a number of things to deal with a case of theft, including suspending or expelling a student or referring them to the police to handle the matter. Cases are handled based on the circumstances and the school's need to keep students safe and deter further problems. If a student has past arrests for theft or other crimes, there is a likelihood that he would be referred back to the police and they would refer it to the Juvenile Court system.
