    Question: How is military law different than normal law?

    Answer: Military law has been developed for military personnel because of their role in defense. For example, a soldier in a combat setting requires rules that take into consideration the battlefield. All civilian laws apply to military persons when they are off the military post. For example, if a soldier gets a speeding ticket, he or she has to pay the ticket. For more serious crimes, the civilian jurisdiction can elect to try the individual or can turn the case over to the military. In the military, there are courts-martial instead of civilian trials but they are similar.
