Speak Up! - View Question #22

    printer friendly version

Question: If I drive my mom's car without her knowing and get caught what would happen?

Answer: If you mean that you have taken your mom's car without her permission, Arizona Revised Statutes 13-1803 would call this the crime of "unlawful use of means of transportation." This means the taking of a person's car without their permission, without intending to steal or keep it.

It would be just a great a crime to take your parents' car without their permission as to take any other person's car, even a complete stranger.

This crime in Arizona is a Class 5 Felony, which is punishable by up to 1 1/2 years in jail.

You would get your permit taken away once you obtain one. About 6 months is what I hear.

A age 16, you would get your permit taken away once you have one. And your parents might be fined. If you're thinking of doing it, just don't do it. Seriously. Why would you risk that?????

You can drive a car but the licensed driver of that vehicle must be present.
