Question: Is it illegal to own or possess a malee weapon, such as a sword or kendo stick?
Answer: Laws vary from state to state concerning these weapons. For example, in Michigan, there appears to be no law against owning these weapons, but there are various laws preventing a person from carrying them as weapons. MCL 764.1.f states that a juvenile cannot carry or possess a club or any object likely to cause death when used as a weapon (MCL 764.1.f). Both a sword and kendo stick could logically be considered to be objects that could cause death. If a minor in Michigan were found to be carrying a sword or kendo stick, he or she would probably be presumed to be carrying it as a weapon until proven otherwise.

I think if you are a female who lives in a town that is somehwat dangerous and you are walking home alone at night by yourself and you can't have a gun to own you should own something to protect yourself. Or anyone should have for that matter.
