Question: Does Domestic Violence fall in the same category as assault?

Answer: To some extent, domestic violence is the same as assault. However, the crime of domestic violence is more broad. It is not only physically hurting a person of the same family or of an intimate relationship but also includes the threat of harm against such person(s). Domestic violence includes emotional, sexual and physical abuse. Domestic violence is most often perpetrated against girls and women but it can and does happen to boys and men. It is a very serious crime and perpetrators are prosecuted and punished for it.
