Question: I am pregnant and not married, do I have to list the baby's father's name on the birth certificate? If so, what rights does he have to the child versus if I didn't put his name on the certificate?
Answer: No, you do not have to list the baby's father's name on the birth certificate. (A.R.S. § 36-334)
If you do put the baby's father's name on the birth certificate and the father acknowledges paternity (A.R.S. § 25-814), he would have rights to parenting time with the baby (A.R.S. § 25-402) and you would be able to get child support.
Noncustodial parents (the parent who does not have custody of the child) do have rights and you can read more about it in A.R.S. § 25-408. Also, remember that the father can petition or ask the court to establish paternity or prove he is the father (A.R.S. § 25-803(A)2)

3 months after my son was born his mom called and asked if i wanted him or him/her.him was my answer. i havent seen him since and he's now about to be 2.it turned out she tried to scribble my name out on the b.c. now things are starting to look good for me bein able to see him. i know not all guys are like me, so do you really know where you stand on not putting the dads name on there. chris rock said it best: you can raise a kid w/o a dad, but you can also drive a car w/ your feet if you want to. but does that make it a good *freaking* idea

you may want hte child support but then you have to her the other parent say i bought that for them so it stays here and does not go to your house. But if you feel you need the help from the other parent then go for it, but if not then you can raise them on your own and not hear anyone say will i bought that for you kids so you need to by something for my kid just try standing onyour own before asking for help you n=might not even need the help.

Amy You can contact the state senator and be the sqeaky wheel and they will help you in collecting child support. I have done this and I have been trying to collect for 4 years now. I't doesn't matter if you put his name on the birth certificate or not, because you can still go after him for child support either way. I did not put my son's father's name on the birth certificate, and it sure does make things easier for me. I changed my son's last name, and because there was no father listed, I didn't have to get the fathers permission. And now if the father ever wants to see his son, he will have to go to court and really work for it, it won't be as easy.... But you have to do what's right for you!
