Question:

HOW MANY PRESIDENTS HAVE BEEN IMPEACHED?

Answer:

Only two presidents in American history have been impeached. No presidents have been removed from office however. Andrew Johnson, who became president after the assassination of President Lincoln, was impeached by the House of Representatives in 1868, but he was later acquitted (ruled not guilty) by the Senate and remained President. The second impeachment came in 1998 with President Bill Clinton. The House successfully impeached the President for perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice, but again the President was acquitted in the Senate and he finished his term in office. President Richard Nixon, who was involved in the famous Watergate Scandal, was never impeached because he resigned before the impeachment hearings took place.
