Question: Do I have to go to driving school to get my permit in the state of Arizona? (I'm moving from New Jersey to there in June)

Answer: If you are 15 years and seven months old, you would be required to take a written test demonstrating knowledge of Arizona traffic laws.

Then, assuming you have permission from your parents, you may receive an instructional permit which allows you to drive as long as you have an adult licensed driver with you. The permit can last up to a year. Once you are 16, you can obtain a class G or M license, with permission of a parent. You must have either completed a driver training course, or have certification from a parent that you completed the required number of hours (25) of supervised driving training. Five of those hours must be night time driving practice(ARS 28-1374).
