Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Should kids be able to have part-time jobs? Uh... YEA! Kids should be able to have jobs. We need to have something to do! Like babysitting for instance, Just because your 12 or 13 doesn't mean your not mature enough. There would be so many reasons for teens wanting to babsitting: 1. They're great with young ones 2. They want to prepare for what the future has in store! 3. THEY'RE MATURE ENOUGH!! I beleve 12 or 13 year olds are cabable enough to have such jobs. Is it so wrong to pass this certain law!? I THINK 12 AND 13 YEAR-OLDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE JOBS!!

This is one of the most retarded laws there is! I am tired of waiting to become the age where they thinkwe are finally mature! At 13 you are Mature i mean come on your a teenager. And its not like all teenagers have jobs. You have to apply for one and if your a bonehead your obviously not getting the wanted job. It should be dropped down a year. Were not Stupid or anything we have the ability to do almost anything an adult can.I think we should take a stand! Change the Law! Do something to show our government that we can do this. But by the time that law is passed we'll all be 22

I have just turned 13 and I was so happy that I could finally get a job, until I realised the minimum age for most jobs is 14! I dont understand why! I am just as mature and responsible as 15 or 16 year old and they can get jobs. It frustrates me so much because I am at the age where I need money to go out for parties and meals, and things like that, and I cant keep asking me parents for money. It should be changed! What does everybody else think about this?

i think that 13 year old should be aloud to work because this is the teen year and they are growing to be adults so the have to learn to work and save their own money and to be more like adults
