Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I wish that there where some people out there that whould even bother to see if we kids could do the job, becuase alot of kids today are more qualified then some "Grown ups" who have no idea what they are doing. I have seen it, alot of them pretend to work but only when there boss is looking. I try to work as much as I can, collecting cans and things like that. But even if there is a Smart hard working 13 year old, and a stupid lazy "grown up" then 10 to 1 there going to pick the "grown up". That is why they don't work hard, becuase when they are kids there shot down, and give up.
