Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i think it's a bad idea because if you want kids to stop doing things that hurt the community then yeah you should let 13 year olds to get a job. That will give them something to do and they will be getting paid for it $,there not suppose to just sit there and do nothing

I think 13 year olds should be allowed to have a job.First of all, 14 year olds are no more mature than we are.We are at that age were we are going to high school, because down here we go to high school at 9th grade and we don't have to wear uniform.A job can help us with the needy as well as the material things we want in life.We are tired of asking our parents for money and they turn us down knowing they have enough to give us and going to party that same night with our school supplies money. So I give a shout out to all of my 13 yr. olds and continue to fight for all of our beliefs.

i think 13 yrs old kids should have jobs too because we are becoming responsibilty see most 13 old kids have older parents like maybe 70 or 60 years old or they dont live with there parents or they is no longer there. 13 yrs olds should have a job most of us want to must of us want to help there parents out if there a single parent

13 year olds should be able to get jobs just as easil as 14 year olds. I am desperatly trying to afford a laptop computer for schoolwork, and my parents can't afford it. But everywhere I look all I see is "we do not hire under the age of 14". That means I have to wait5 months just to start working, not to mention the actual work and time it would take to afford a laptop.
