Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

It is so not fair that 13 year olds can't be employed not even for a summer job. We need the cash and need a place to go while our parents work we don't like have to babysit or even babysit because most of the time it does not pay a lot.

i think taht 13-year-olds should be able to get jobs because we are starting to get into the age of responsibility. we now might have to pay for things that we want to do if our parents cant help us with it. my parents are now wanting me to earn money for my self with chores, but the money they give me is too little. i feel like could use a job so i can do my personal activities and help out my family. i have too save up for things so i dont have to truble my parents but if i do want to save then ill have to wait for it. ITS NOT FAIR! we are teens and we sould get the right to a payed job!

I think us 13 year olds need a job because we should have some type of labor at an early age and at the age of 13 getting a job would be more of a privalege than a burden which would mean that more work would get done.
