Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

i agree with everyone else.like me, my mom gets sick of me always asking her for money ,and i'm tired of asking her for money too!she tells me all the time" girl you need a job "and frankly i agree. We mature 13 year olds need a job for gob sakes.Do a worldwide vote for 13 year olds and see for yourself. And you might find out that putting 13 year olds off the street and in some reasonable jobs would stop some drug dealing and stuff.

I am 13 years old and I can't get a job because no company can hire me. This is unfair because I come from a poor family and my parents cannot pay the bills we have to borrow money from our relatives and friends. I'm in desperate need of a job and the law says I can't get one. This law is making many people starve and die. Something needs to be done about this.I know many of you are well capable of working. I myself have been working for my family doing many things SINCE I WAS THREE YEARS OLD. This law needs to be repealed.
