Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that 13 year olds should be able to have a job other than that lame babysitting stuff because we are responsible enough to handle it. I believe that our government should allow 13 year olds to hold jobs at cool places like Taco Bell or Blockbuster or someplace that would allow people our age to have fun while earnign money. Plus, we need money to buy stuff that we need and our parents are fed up with giving us cash so they tell us to earn it, but how? By babysitting a brat? NO!!! We should be able to have cool and fun jobs so that we can save money for the important things in life.

I think kids at 13 should be able to get a job. Everything is so expensive and kids want to be able to start saving up for college or a car. When your parents aren't the most richest people in the world and can't give you money or can't give you allowance, our bank account is sitting there empty. I think that kids that are 13 should be able to get a job but it could be every other day or something only part time for say like 4 hours. Just enough so when you get older you have money for your important needs...and eventually your own family one day. The age 13 is the perfect age to start saving.
