Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

yes it is fair, if 13 year olds want a job so be it. I am 13 i have had a paper round, but i wasn't been fairly paid so i quite, but i am now looking for jobs to do. I am trying to save up for a holiday to florida with my family to get a dvd of us swimming with dolphins and thats why it is fair.

i dont think that it is fair for 14 year olds to have a job and not 13. That dosen't make any sense to me, we should be able to work. It would make us more responsible and independent. So i guess im gonna have to wait until october to get a job. Ill just try to wash cars and babysit as much as i can. :(
