Question: Can employers refuse to hire 14-year-olds if they hire 15-year-olds in AZ?

Answer: Arizona law does not forbid an employer from refusing to hire 14-year-olds, while hiring 15-year-olds.

However, Arizona statues do have various restrictions regarding the employment of children under the age of 16. Arizona Law (ARS §23-232) says that children under 16 are prohibited from working in, about, or in connection with:

-manufacturing
-processing
-laundering or dry cleaning in a commercial laundry
-warehousing
-construction
-boiler, furnace, or engine rooms
-occupations involving work from a ladder, scaffold, windowsill, or similar structures, or places more than five feet in height
-certain activities in retail food or gasoline service establishments.

Another Arizona Law (ARS §23-231) has more restrictions for employment of children under 18 years old.

In addition, there are limitations placed on the hours that may be worked by children under the age of 16. Minors under the age of 16 may not work more than 3 hours per day and 18 hours per week when enrolled in school. When not enrolled in school or when school is not in session, minors under the age of 16 may not work more than 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.

I totally agree with you I am 15 and am finding it terribly hard to get a job. It is ridiculous!! We should be allowed to work at 15!!!

I agree with you I think 14 year olds should be able to work. We are very responsible and if we like to work they should accept us.

I think that its a lil messed up that 14 year olds cant get jobs anywhere. Not only are we gettin complained to from our parents, but then people wonder why teens this age get into trouble, Like sellin drugs and stuff. I think they should allow 14 year olds to work to stay outta trouble and to ge started on life.

Schooling is important, and adults do not want to see children (yes, teens are still children) pulled away from their studies to go make money. Stay in school and pay attention to spelling and grammar - then you can go get a good job where communication skills are important!

I think its totally dumb that 15 year olds cant get jobs anywhere because of there age. Like in the old days when people were refused jobs because of there family background, skin color, sexuality, gender, and religion. Thats just how it is now with teenagers we're refused jobs everyday, like the employers are afraid that we won't be reliable.I think that in letting employers hire 15 year olds the government will be helping with how many druggys there are on the streets and how many kids go to raves and od on drugs. It would be better for all of america if teens could work because it would hel
