Question: In Arizona if a pedestrian is in the middle of a crosswalk and a green arrow appears at the end of the traffic signal (green, yellow, red), doesn't the left hand turn traffic (green arrow) have to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk? My husband and I were recently in this situation and the pedestrian was stuck in the middle of the crosswalk because the left turn arrow traffic would not let him finish clearing the crosswalk. My husband believed that he had the right away over the pedestrian because he had the left hand turn arrow. Thanks.

Answer: If the pedestrian is in the crosswalk, the dirver should yield to the pedestrian giving him/her time to cross safely. See  A.R.S. § 28-645(1)b
