Question: What is the sentence for computer hacking?
Answer: A federal law, the Computer Abuse and Fraud Act (47 USC 1030), provides that the maximum penalty for one instance of hacking is five-years and a fine.
For the first time offender, a minimum of six-months in prison; for repeat
offenders it's 10-years and a fine. Fines can range from up to $250,000.

Then the friend gave her the pass word. My daughter thought the friend had made it up to be similar to the other persons so my daughter got on it and pretended to be someone else and was caught because the person she was pretending to be was sitting next to the other person she was talking too. My daughter has told me of alot of kids that are making up e-mails pretending to be other people. I don't know if there is a specific law against that. I am sure it is fr

The penalty for computer hacking does not have enough definition put into it. A kid who knows nothing about computers can be charged with the Computer Fraud/Abuse Act just for reading someone else's email without their consent, and by obtaining the password illegally. 6 months in jail for that is crazy, and then there are kids who think they are hackers and download little programs they don't know how to use, and then they mess up and crash an ISP server and get jail time. I think people like that should get probation or community service. As for the real hacker - ones that break into commerci
