Question: If I got a misdemeanor offense, when is my court date and what sentence most likely to be?

Answer: A misdemeanor offence in Arizona can be handled in two way.

1) If this is your first offence, you may be asked to come to court and speak to a probation officer. If you accept responsibility for the offence, the matter is 'adjusted' and no delinquency petition is filed.

2) The matter can be sent to the County Attorney's office for them to consider filing a delinquency petition. If a juvenile is not arrested immediately, the court date should be within 30 days of filing of the petition. The 'sentence could be anything from a small fine, community service, detention, probation or commitment to the Department of Juvenile Corrections until age 18.

I just got my second speeding ticket, and it was my third ticket in a year. The cop told me I got a misdemeanor offense. What does that mean? It is going to be a full year in Feburary since I have had my license. What is going on?
