Question: What is disturbing the peace?

Answer: In Arizona, the is no crime of 'disturbing the peace.' There is the crime of Disorderly Conduct, which is probably the closest crime in Arizona to disturbing the peace.

Disorderly Conduct is governed by Arizona Law (ARS 13-2904). A person commits disorderly conduct if he/she engages in fighting or disruptive behavior, makes unreasonable noise or uses abusive/offensive language or gestures in a manner likely to provoke immediate physical retaliation. Violation of one of these is a class one misdemeanor punishable by no more than six months in jail and a $2500 fine. Disorderly conduct can also be the reckless handling, display or discharge of a deadly weapon (like a gun) or a dangerous instrument (like a knife). Violation of this is a class 6 felony, punishable by six months in prison up to 2 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $100,000.

Our neighbors son has been trying, without success to install a car alarm. He's been working on it for a couple weeks now, and every few minutes it goes off. There's no peace and quiet with this thing blasting away. Yesterday our adult daughter yelled at him to knock it off as she worked late and needed some sleep. It is very irritating and there should be a law against such things. Question is, is there a law against such things.

Having a little fun is fine. When your fun, though, keeps someone awake, then they have a right to complain ... though I agree that calling the police because someone is being loud or annoying is a bit overboard. If someone is drunk ... depends on how drunk they are and what they're doing. If they're puking on someone else's porch, that's bad. If they're
