Question: I recently stole my aunts car but charges were not pressed. I was wondering how long that would stay on my record?

Answer: If you were arrested, then that will always be on your record. However, since there is no conviction it can't be used against you, unless you were to lie about being arrested, then that lie about the arrest could be used to demonstrate you are not truthful.

If you were not arrested, then there will not be anything on your record.

What is a "background check" performed by employers? What exactly are they able to find and what are they usually looking for? For example what can they find out about your previous jobs , credit history , and any criminal records?
