Question: Do police have to get parent's permission to talk to underage witnesses, not offenders?
Answer: There is no rule or law that Police must get permission to speak with underage witnesses. Many police officers do however make an effort to contact parents because they feel it is a good practice to do so.

okay, i'm a young girl, wanting adive from a police officer. my mom broke it off with her b.f. of 4 years almost 2 months ago, since he restrained her so much, she started going out a lot. but she goes out every single night to the bar, and doesn't come back til around 5 in the morning. i try waking her up so she can get my bros to school on time, but they're always late! please help, my mom is violent, i wanna talk to her but i'm afraid she'll get violent cuz i know she will. help me, i'm really scared. it would be a great deal if you would help me.

Juveniles don't end up with criminal records because of police interrogations; they end up with criminal records because THEY BROKE THE LAW! I don't take the view that my children should refuse to speak to and cooperate with police. My view is that if my children break the law, they should and will cooperate with the police and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! The same goes with their behavior at school. As an educator and police officer, I can't tell you how many young lives I've seen get screwed up because of parents who won't allow their children to assume responsibility for their actions. SAD!!
