Question: What is the law against 'burning' a music artists CD?

Answer: It is against U.S. and international copyright laws to copy an original work created by someone else without permission. The copyright laws apply to music CD's. The same copyright laws also make it illegal to copy movies -- as you know, if you have ever read those warnings that appear at the beginning (and end) of a rented videotape or DVD. Likewise, if you check the cover of any music CD that you purchase, you will see that it contains a notice under U.S. and international copyright laws warning against making copies without permission.

Cd burning should be leagal because you have to buy the stuff to burn the CDs. All da stuff the people make they get hardly anything. But the Cd company gets less per copy they sell and the shops they sell to gets more money.

Yea the artist only makes 35 cents from every CD sold but 35 cents adds up. If you sell a million CD's thats $35,000, and that's a nice chunk of money when you have bills to pay. Music artists are people too they do have bills to pay. So when you download songs and don't go and buy their CD's then you are just taking money from them. If they didn't care about the money from CD sales then music downloading wouldn't be an issue.

Hi, I burn cd's myself and I do not see anything wrong with it. Big deal if they lose some money. Theres still the people who buy their cds, they can make money off them.
