Question: Why does someone get his or her driver's license taken away for doing graffiti? It seems like there is no connection between them.

Answer:

Arizona Law (A.R.S. § 8-323) has been written to include many offenses that might be committed by a juvenile. The Law lists 11 different choices for the hearing officer to impose if it is proven that a juvenile did violate the law. If it is found that someone did graffiti or had materials with the intent of doing graffiti, one of the possible consequences is having driving privileges suspended.

There is another Arizona Law (A.R.S. § 28-3320) that makes a Driver's License suspension for graffiti mandatory. This law includes other offenses in its terms as well. Those include DUI, drinking and driving, drug offenses, any criminal damage charge, and use of a car without permission of the owner.

The reason why driver's license suspension was written into this law is because driving is a privilege and many times when a privilege is taken away, the person wants to work hard to get it back. In this case, the offender might stop doing graffiti because it is important to him or her to be able to drive.

Graffitti and driving aren't realated, at all. Why would someone take the liscense for vandalism? Fines to repair damage, and then another fine for the crime should be good enough. Like the damage fine, and a crime fine. Jeez louise.

Hey I was on here because a forum I am a part of put up a link. The whole idea is funny. When I used to live in Phoenix, I was a graff artist. And, it seems to me that Phoenix should maybe work on getting rid of the meth labs or tweakers harassing kids in downtown. But, no instead Phoenix sits back and watches gentrification happen and lets the city go down the drain. Just as long as the rich have a place to live in nice yuppie-ville, as the rest of the city actualy works. So yea, graffiti is a huge problem. Lay off, actually take care of you city Phoenix.
