Question: What kids of lawyers are there? What are they?

Answer: There are many types of lawyers. Usually, each lawyer has a specialty in the law. Those can include; divorce law, medical malpractice, bankruptcy, criminal, juvenile, probate and estate, elderly, contracts, constitutional, domestic violence or family law..... some people have a 'general' practice and engage in many different types of law. Lawyers can work in big law firms with hundreds of lawyers or small firms with only one or two lawyers. They can also work for large corporations or in hospitals.

There are two tracks of law; civil law and criminal law. Civil law is when an individual or corporation sues another individual or corporation. Criminal law is when the county, state or federal officials prosecute an individual for breaking a criminal law such as murder, fraud, robbery, and drunk driving. Criminal law usually deals with probation, jail or prison sentences and/or payment of fines. Civil law usually deals with payments of money to the person/corporation that claims it was harmed.
