Question: How long is a Life Sentence?

Answer: A life sentence lasts for the rest of that person's natural life. This means that if the person is convicted and sentenced at 30 years old, he will remain in prison until he dies, which could be 50 or more years. If a person is convicted at age 60 and receives a life sentence, he will remain in prison until his death which could be only 10 or 20 years.

A life sentence is 50 years. But the life sentence itself can be reversed by a means of parole or other altercations such as house arrest

With a life sentence, the court thinks about how long the convicted (found guilty) person's life sentence should be. A 20 year old should live to be about 80, so his life sentence would be 60 years. A 50 year old's sentence would be 30 years. The court gives more than one life sentence because the prisoner might live longer than the court's estimated life sentence. If they do, they can be released into society. With more than one life sentence, it guarantees that the prisoner will never get out. Also, with life sentence, there's no chance for parole (getting out early for good behavior).
